Reverse osmosis to produce high purity water

Reverse osmosis is the most reliable and cost effective technology for the production of high purity water for use in industrial processes. It can be used to produce demineralised and ultrapure water.

On account of the very small pore size of membranes that are used, this technology makes it possible to achieve in one single step various fundamental stages of purification, including:

  • demineralization;
  • total elimination of suspended solids;
  • elimination of microbiological contaminants (bacteria, viruses, endotoxins etc).

Since this is a physical filtration process, no addition of chemical products occurs and there is no generation of effluents to be disposed of.

Operating costs relating to reverse osmosis plants are very low as only the liquid to be treated has to be pressurized. Furthermore, the process involves the use of membranes specifically designed for this purpose and which therefore ensure a long working life.

Significant consequent economic benefits normally allow for amortization of investments in the short term.

Mini reverse-osmosis machine

The reverse-osmosis machines of the MINI-RO series are very compact devices that can be used to produce small volumes of water presenting a low level of conductivity and high purity. They are particularly suitable for application in:

  • workshops/laboratories;
  • small washing systems;
  • production of demineralised water for batteries;
  • commercial establishments.

Products with sanitary components are available for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.

Installation is particularly simple, in that MINI-RO series machines can be positioned on the ground or on a bench and simply require a delivery and a discharge water connection. Two pre-treatment stages (5 micron filtration and activated carbon) are already envisaged and incorporated for the conditioning of the input water prior to reverse osmosis

Medium series reverse osmosis machines

Compact-RO and Standard-RO series machines are compact devices that can be used to produce up to 12000l/h of low conductivity and high purity water. They are suitable for the treatment of water for boiler feeding, rinsing, auto-washing and similar applications.
Versions with sanitary components are available for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.

As for the Mini-RO series, the COMPACT-RO and STANDARD-RO series machines are particularly simple to install, being premounted on a frame that allows them to be positioned both on the soil and on a bench, requiring only a delivery and a discharge water connection. Two stages of pre-treatment (sequestering agent dosing and 5 micron filtration) are already envisaged and incorporated for the conditioning of input water prior to reverse osmosis treatment.

Once again, for particularly difficult cases suitable accessories such as sand filters, softener, activated carbon filter, dosing of reducing agent etc. are proposed to intensify the pre-treatment.

Such machines are usually fitted with high rejection membranes in order to optimize the quality of the permeate produced. However, versions with low operating pressure membranes are also available for cases in which low energy consumption is to be prioritized.

An additional option includes a membrane washing station with loading pump, which can be used to feed the system should the mains water pressure not be sufficient.

In particularly difficult cases (e.g. raw water which is very hard or presents a high level turbidity) TA proposes suitable accessories to intensify the pre-treatment (sand filter, softener, activated-carbon filter, dosing of a reducing agent etc.).
