Ozone treatment plants for water potabilization

Ozone (O3) is an unstable gas composed of three oxygen atoms. It is mainly produced by exposing oxygen or air to an electric discharge.

One of the main characteristics of ozone is its high oxidizing power, as a result of which it is able to react with organic substances (especially with unsaturated C=C bonds); this characteristic has been used in many water and air treatment processes.

The advantage of ozone compared to products that develop free chlorine, often used for water purification, is that the former ensures better sterilization with respect to bacteria and viruses; moreover, ozone does not alter the characteristics of water, especially its taste, and generates a smaller amount of harmful by-products.

In confirmation of the absolute compatibility of ozone, within adequate measures, with human activities, as from 26 June 2001 the FDA permits the use of ozone in production processes even in the food industry. Ozone has been used for the disinfection of bottled water since 1982 and since 1984 all swimming pools used during the Olympic Games must be purified with ozone. The Italian Ministry of Health recognized ozone as a "NATURAL DEVICE FOR THE STERILIZATION OF ENVIRONMENTS" in July 1996 (Protocol No 24482).

TA offers ozone treatment systems for the sterilization of drinking water and for industrial applications, such as bleaching,  elimination of micro pollutants, deodorization, etc.
