Ultrafiltration allows for the purification of many process fluids, with the possibility of achieving important improvements in industrial processes:
  • volume reduction of spent solutions sent for disposal;
  • recovery of solutions containing fine materials;
  • reduction in the consumption of chemicals and demineralised water.
The cost involved in ultrafiltration systems operation is very low because of low power consumption and of the long life of new generation membranes.

It is also possible to combine ultrafiltration systems with other technology, such as traditional and activated carbon filtration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, chemical oxidation, ion exchange, etc.

The considerable consequent economic benefits allow for the amortization of investments in ultrafiltration systems within just a few months.

COMPACT-UF series ultrafiltration machines are compact devices usable for oily wastewater treatment. They are recommended for:
  • emulsions treatment;
  • degreasing bath treatment;
  • wastewater treatment in the jewellery sector.
The plant is based on a concentration tank containing special filling bodies to promote coalescence and therefore surfacing of oil. Free surface oil is collected by means of a float-tube oil separator, which continuously maintains the tank surface clean.

The wastewater is continuously circulated in one or more ultrafiltration membranes, which allow for the recycle back to concentration tank of the concentrate containing oil and other pollutants and the extraction of oil-free permeate. The latter can be removed for reuse, while recycling the concentrate results in an increase of efficiency in the oil-separation process. Also in the presence of emulsion, recycling in fact promotes its breakage and allows for the extraction of oil in the free form.

COMPACT-UF series  machines make it possible to concentrate exhausted emulsion or degreasing bath, recovering water and surfactant to produce a fresh solution and removing free oil for disposalor as a very small fraction (1-5%) of the original volume.

The use of ceramic membranes for the filtering elements and stainless steel for housings, tank and pipes makes the equipment resistant to corrosion, particularly reliable and cleanable in extreme conditions (T=90 °C, pH=14 and possible use of solvents).

The plant is fitted with control valves (discharge of concentrate and internal recycling) and complete instrumentation (membrane feed and output pressure, permeate pressure, purified-water capacity) to determine correct operation under all conditions of use.

Equipment for post-treatment of ultrafiltration permeate are available as accessories, in order to obtain water with particular purity requirements (e.g. nanofiltration, activated carbon filter).

The machines are normally equipped with ceramic membrane modules in a tubular configuration with 3.5-mm channels. However, the following versions are available:
  • fitted with membranes with a high-passage section (6-mm channels), for the treatment of particularly dirty or viscous wastewater;
  • fitted with membranes with a reduced-passage section (2.5-mm channels) to obtain a higher filtering surface when working on clean solutions.

(1) capacity expressed as production of permeate with reference to hot emulsion

Quantity of spent solution normally collected for disposal or treatment may be referred to for the choice of machine capacity (production of permeate). Starting from this data, it is possible to calculate what ultrafiltration machine would allow for the same renewal of solution in relation to the weekly or monthly hours worked.
